SANDHURST FIGHT PLANS FOR MOSQUE NEXT DOOR

DEFENCE chiefs are fighting plans to build a giant mosque overlooking Sandhurst Royal Military Academy.
They claim the building’s huge dome and two 100ft-minarets would pose a security threat by overlooking the Army College.
Princes William and Harry were both trained there and senior members of the Royal Family are regular visitors.
Surrey Heath Council has already approved an application to build the mosque, which would be just 400 yards from the trainee officers’ parade ground.
But security experts warn it could attract Islamic fanatics. A security source confirmed that checks were being carried out on links with known radical mosques.
He added: “Police special branch has asked to brief the local council about the matter.” A Ministry of Defence spokesman confirmed that an objection had been lodged but stressed it was due to the planned height of the building rather than its use.
“Such a tall building would give oversight into Defence property which could prove a security risk,” he said. Surrey Heath’s planning committee approved the building plans last week but a final decision before the full council will not be made until next month.
A petition against the mosque has been signed by 7,000 local residents and campaign leader Alan Kirkland said: “A lot of people are questioning the size of the minarets, which will overlook the whole academy.”
Has the world gone mad? Our troops are fighting and dying against Muslim Extremist and now they want to allow those who might well be sympathetic with our enemies to build a Mosque next to the premier Military training academy in the world.
