Well, well, what can we say about the clowns running Aberdeen City Council, this time they have managed to lower their credibility even more by actually lying in court. However this time the Sheriff saw through their lies.
The headline in the Press and Journal 12/2/13 says it all- “Incompetent city licensing board lambasted by Sheriff”.
To cut a long story short a case was brought to Aberdeen City Council’s licensing board to discuss the suggestion by Grampian Police that the Pearl Lounge in Aberdeen should be closed for 2 weeks as a punishment for allegedly allowing underage drinking and violence to take place on the premises.
The Licensing board discussed this and one of the serving councillors Muriel Jaffrey 73 (SNP) was seen to be asleep during discussions. Lawyers for the Pearl Lounge lodged an appeal that the closure of the club should be overturned due to the fact that sleeping beauty may not have heard all representations made on the day.

Muriel Jaffrey said that she couldn’t say that she was asleep or not as she was on medication at the time! She also said “If you put me in a witness box I couldn’t say for sure”.
The clowns in the council then got their legal dept to submit on their behalf a statement that Muriel hadn’t fallen asleep.
Sheriff Pyle then said at the court hearing “By denying it the defenders misled the court. That is a most serious charge – more serious than the breaches of natural justice during the hearing”.
Well the council have not learnt from previous cases of misleading the public (They lied to the National Front and had to issue an apology in 2012).
The public do not trust the council anymore and they must be so relieved that there are no upcoming council elections to be contested.
On a final note the Sheriff refused to allow the council to hold the hearing again against the Pearl Lounge and the owner does not have to close the club for a 2 week period.
